You might think turning the heat way down (or off) in the winter will save you money... but it'll cost you instead!

“Signs, signs, everywhere a sign… Do this, don’t do that – can’t you read the sign?”

If you’re of a certain age, you probably remember those lyrics well. They’re from a 70’s protest song sung by the Five Man Electrical Band. You might’ve also heard Tesla’s version a couple of decades later. What’s it have to do with HVAC work in Northeast Ohio? We’re certainly not protesting anything – we just thought that song was a good reminder that there are some common-sense do’s and don’ts when it comes to your home’s comfort systems.

Don’t:

Put off routine HVAC maintenance. Neglecting your heating and cooling system will surely cost you money and cause you grief in the long run. The best way to handle regular maintenance is with our no-hassle maintenance agreement. You’ll receive an annual heating and cooling system tune-up, plus a host of other benefits.

Do:

Check your carbon monoxide (CO) detectors regularly to make sure they’re all working, and replace their batteries on a regular basis. Don’t have detectors? Call us to learn how affordable and easy it is to install these life-saving devices in your home.

Don’t:

Rely only on your CO detectors. Remember, they only detect carbon monoxide when dangerously high levels are present. Research has shown that even low levels of this odorless gas can have long-term adverse health effects. Schedule a furnace inspection so we can test the air in your home for any presence of carbon monoxide.

Do:

Clean or change or your filters regularly. This is the most important task to keep your HVAC system running efficiently. Even a relatively small amount of dust and dirt can limit air flow. A clogged filter is the most common cause of a system breakdown.

Don’t:

Turn your heat down too low if you’re leaving the house for an extended period. You don’t want your home to get too cold or your system will have to work extremely hard to bring the temperature back up to normal. Also, this really should go without saying – never shut the heat off when you are leaving home. Below-freezing temperatures could lead to frozen and burst water pipes, resulting in thousands of dollars in damage.
