The warmer weather that spring brings with it provides the perfect opportunity to tackle some easy projects!

It’s that time of year again! At last, the weather is warming up, and it’s time for Northeast Ohio homeowners to start their annual spring cleaning. As you think about what to purge and what to organize, the Hey Neighbor Heating & Cooling pros encourage you to think outside the box this year. But how? The answer is simple – don’t limit yourself to the garage, shed, or that dusty basement. Instead, focus on whole-home spring cleaning!

Ready for some great ideas? Here are eight handy cleaning tips to spruce up your home this spring.

1. Clean your showerheads and faucets

Do you have hard water? If you do, chances are your showerheads have plenty of mineral buildup. Hard water contains lots of magnesium and calcium, which tarnish your showerheads and faucets with crusty water stains. Here’s an easy fix – mix one part baking soda and two parts vinegar inside a plastic sandwich bag. Tie the bag around your showerhead or faucet and let it soak overnight. Then, in the morning, wipe it clean with a wet cloth and enjoy the sparkle!

2. Change your air filter

A great way to keep your HVAC system working efficiently is by changing your air filter every one to three months. Not only does this simple task ease the strain on your system, but it’ll improve your indoor air quality, too!

3. Vacuum your vents and registers

We all vacuum the floors and carpets often, but how about the air vents? Don’t forget to clean all those return vents and registers when you’re thoroughly cleaning the carpeting this spring.

4. Declutter your home

Do you acquire too much stuff throughout the year? Spring is the perfect time to remove those unneeded boxes and bags that have been eating up space in your place. Organizing your rooms and removing the extra clutter will also help get rid of all the dust that’s been accumulating. You gotta make room for this year’s garage sale finds somehow, right?

5. Pull the weeds, trim the shrubs, rake up the mess

Is your outdoor AC unit surrounded by overgrown shrubs, weeds, and yard debris that’s accumulated during the winter months? Take some time to pull the weeds, tidy up the shrubs, and rake up any leaves and other refuse around your condenser. A good guideline is to leave a minimum two-foot radius of clear space around the unit.

6. Change those old alarm system batteries

Spring is the time to remove old batteries in your smoke detector and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms and replace them with a fresh set. This easy task ensures that you’ll be warned in an emergency.

7. Clean your gutters and downspouts

It’s only natural to forget about those gutters high above your head, but be sure to clean them out each spring (and fall). Remember, a clogged downspout or backed-up gutter can cause damage you definitely don’t want!

8. Call Hey Neighbor Heating & Cooling for a spring tune-up

OK, this one is a no-brainer, but don’t forget to call the Hey Neighbor team and schedule your spring tune-up. Our expert technicians will conduct a thorough inspection and cleaning of your cooling system to ensure that it runs at peak efficiency this summer – and keeps your family nice and comfy, too!
